Shiatsu is a body-oriented therapy, originally from Japan. The aim is to let the energy in the body flow as well as possible and thus stimulate the body's self-healing capacity. The therapist uses various techniques for this, such as stretching and pressure with fingers, palms and elbows.

Lying on a massage table, the treatment is given over the clothing. Shiatsu can also be used amazingly for children.

The foundation of Shiatsu is to reestablish proper functioning of the body, much more than to treat specific symptoms. (Masunaga, Zen Shiatsu, 1977).
